Christianity, church, God, humble, humility, Jesus, pride, the church
I saw this image shared on Facebook yesterday by a ‘Christian Influencer’, and I could only think, Yikes! 😬 This is a dangerous “encouragement”. All we bring to the table is from God, and we should not be proud at all. We should definitely not “act like” we bring a lot to the table.
Church, my fellow believers, let us give humility high regard. It is the beautiful existence God has called us to. One where we know and accept our place in position to God and our fellow man. One where we think of others before ourselves. One where we serve God—not for any gain or recognition of our talents—but because we love Him and desire to be obedient. May we not flaunt the abilities God has endowed us with to do His work, and (heaven forbid) feel entitled to act superior because of those abilities.
All we have been given is from God, and for God. May we humbly serve Him, always pointing to Him and away from ourselves. Pursue humility, brothers and sisters, and remember that any kind of pride is loathsome to our holy God, who looks to our good, and knows that pride has brought down many a person.
“God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
-James 4:6
“He must become greater, I must become less.” -John 3:30
“You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” -Matthew 5:14-16
“Thus says the Lord, “Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches; but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the Lord who exercises lovingkindness, justice and righteousness on earth; for I delight in these things,” declares the Lord.”
-Jeremiah 9:23-24
“For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever.”
-1 John 2:16-17
